BOULDER, COLO – TeamSnap, the household name in sports-tech management, has seen a spike in the number of youth and recreation sports events being cancelled or rescheduled this month.
Overall, more than 3,800 different sports games, scheduled through TeamSnap, have been cancelled or rescheduled in July. The company attributes the rash of cancellations to the extreme hot temperatures much of North America has experienced in July.
At the current rate, July is projected to have a 70% increase in cancellations compared to 2017 and a 124% increase compared to 2016.
"Weather obviously plays a huge role in the scheduling of youth and recreational sports and we have seen an obvious correlation between event cancellations this month and the recent extreme temperatures across much of North America," says Ken McDonald, Chief Growth Officer, TeamSnap. "Teams, clubs and associations have been very careful in rescheduling outdoor events with the hot temperatures, and we are glad that TeamSnap is being used to keep teams informed and updated on last minute schedule changes."
