July 13 Updates: Youth Sports Programs and COVID-19

In partnership with Under Armour, I am proud to share this heat map as a real-time and data-informed resource that tracks the return to youth sports. This map provides visibility into state-by-state and sport-specific trends across the U.S., and is accompanied by return-to-play resources and sentiments from thought leaders across the country. Week of July 13, 2020 findings include:

• New Canadian data shows youth and recreational sports activities are returning much quicker than expected across most Canadian provinces.

• Canada is now mirroring levels in the United States where the resumption of sports began in April and May.
• Basketball holds the lowest Return to Sport Index score at 80.2% (U.S.) and 54.5% (CAN).
• A new survey indicates only 50% of coaches and volunteer staff are consistently wearing face masks during practices and games.
