The Best Resources for Sports Team Managers

Are you a sports team manager? Do you need help communicating with your team? Do you enjoy pictures that move, a.k.a. videos? You’re in luck! In this video, Andrea Benton, host of raisingboys.tv and a TeamSnap hockey team manager, shares her top three resources for making your life easier! If you’re a team manager, you’ll want to take note.

Going to your club or association can be a goldmine for information. We put this one first because a team manager’s best resource is people. So if you find a buddy who knows the ropes, there’s nothing better! Bounce questions off them and learn what they do to streamline communication and team management. At first, some of their suggestions might sound like they might not work for you. Don’t let that stop you from asking more questions! It’s important to keep an open mind at this stage. Collect data, try it out and see what works. At the worst, if you don’t like a method your friends suggested, that just means you’ve narrowed down your options. It’s a process of trial and error, and you’re never too old to learn something new!

Second, use TeamSnap. We’re the go-to sports management software for more than 11 million coaches, administrators, players and parents in 196 countries (that’s all of ‘em, by the way). TeamSnap makes life easier for everyone by allowing you to access your roster from anywhere, get real-time schedule updates and by notifying your coach when you can and can’t make practice. Plus, you can receive instant updates on games you can’t make with TeamSnap Live!, easily assign volunteer roles and share photos with the entire team in no time. TeamSnap streamlines everything, makes life easier and saves you time communicating with your team.

Lastly, check out your local, state or provincial association. They often have different perspectives on how to manage different sports (soccer, hockey, wombat racing, whatever!), so you can definitely learn something that other resources might not tell you. As you probably know, gathering information from many different viewpoints is a great way to improve your team management skills. After all, nobody has all the right answers. Find people you like and respect, then strike up a conversation with them. Oftentimes, they’ll come up with ways to save time that you hadn’t even considered!

Andrea Benton is the host of raisingboys.tv and a mom of two boys. To see more of her videos, visit her Youtube channel.
