The Rise Ball

In this youth softball drill, Olympic gold medalist and world-class pitcher Jennie Finch shows you how to throw a rise ball.

Transcription:

I'll take you through my fastball pitching motion. You have to have two feet on the rubber, for me I'm right handed, so my right foot's forward. If you're left handed, than you're left foot would be forward. When I take my sign I put my weight on the right foot, rock back here, start off to explode off the mound, I call this the racing dive. Exploding towards home plate, then we call this the nine o'clock position here. I point my glove at my target which lines up my shoulders, snap through by the hip, call this the hello elbow. You really want to feel the ball almost ripping off your fingertips here by the hip, the more violent the wrist snap the harder the pitch. Let me show you how I do it. And, that's your fastball.
